Page Authority

Page Authority is Moz’s score, from 1 to 100, that predicts how well one page will rank based on links to that page. It is on a logarithmic scale. It helps you compare pages inside Moz, not in Google.

What Page Authority means for a small site

Use Page Authority to judge link strength at the page level. It is useful when two pages compete on the same query and both satisfy intent.

Do not use it as a goal by itself. None of these scores are Google metrics as of 2026. They say nothing about relevance or search intent.

Example: yourproduct.com/pricing has PA 12. A rival’s /pricing shows PA 24 in Moz. If your page answers the query better, you can still win on long tails and brand terms. For a head term, plan to build links to that page.

How to check it and the equivalents

Check PA in Moz. Domain Authority is the domain-wide version from Moz. For other indexes, look at Ahrefs’s URL Rating and Semrush’s page-level scores.

  • Pick one tool and stick to it for comparisons.
  • Compare pages on the same query: your /guides/getting-started vs three rivals’ guides.
  • Read scores on a logarithmic scale. A move from 10 to 20 is easier than 30 to 40.

What moves the score on a page

Links pointing at the page. The index each tool has, and the quality of those links, drive the score.

  • Earn a handful of relevant backlinks to the exact URL. A mention from a fit blog or directory helps more than ten random links.
  • Add internal links from strong pages. Link to /pricing from /guides/pricing-strategy using the page’s topic in the anchor.
  • Consolidate duplicates. Set a canonical to the primary URL so links roll up to one page.
  • Fix broken linked URLs. If others link to /features, but you moved it, 301 to the new URL.
  • Keep the page crawlable. If a tool cannot crawl it, it may miss links and under-score the page.

A healthy page after fixes: one canonical URL, live 200 status, linked from your top nav, and at least a few relevant external links.

How to use Page Authority in decisions

  • Pick targets you can win. If top results are PA 70+ and your best is 15, start with related long-tail terms.
  • Prioritise link work. If two solid pages tie on intent, build links to the one closer to page one.
  • Spot pages that hoard links. If /blog/post-a has high PA, add an internal link block to pass some strength to /features and /pricing.
  • Track changes. Note PA monthly for a small set of target pages. Keep the tool constant.

Limits and traps

  • Do not chase the number. Ship pages that match search intent first.
  • Do not mix tools. A PA 25 is not the same as a UR 25.
  • Do not confuse authority with speed. PageSpeed Insights measures performance, not links.
  • Expect gaps. Tools miss links. A low score does not mean a page is weak in Google.
  • Remember scope. Scores predict relative potential, not actual rankings or conversions.
